ABOUT

DEKA is a series of functional fitness competitions developed by Spartan Race, designed to test and celebrate your strength, endurance, and mental grit through a standardized 10-zone fitness circuit.

Unlike traditional obstacle course races, DEKA events are held indoors and focus on measurable, repeatable fitness challenges accessible to all levels.

Competition Formats

  • 10 zones, no running.​

  • 10 zones, interspersed with 160 meters of running between each zone, totaling 1 mile.

  • 10 zones, each preceded by 500 meters of running, totaling a 5K.​

These formats allow participants to choose the level of challenge that suits them best.​

The 10 DEKA Zones

While the specific exercises can vary, the zones typically include a mix of strength, endurance, and functional movements. Examples of zones may include:​

  • Box jumps or step-overs​

  • Rowing​

  • Air bike

  • Farmers carry​

  • Dead ball over shoulder​

  • Burpee broad jumps​
